After graduating from college, Jim had to decide whether to go to law school or play bass in a rock band. He chose the band. Daddy Longlegs was the first of several western Mass groups that he played in, including Midnight Shift, where he first made music with Don. He also wrote about music and musicians for local newspapers and magazines like DownBeat and Guitar Player. In 1989, he became the first editor of Bass Player magazine and moved to California. 10 years later, he moved back East, with stops in New York and New Hampshire, before returning to Massachusetts where he reconnected with Don and joined The DulceTones.
Joel has been playing keyboards since he was old enough to sit at a piano bench. He was in a few bands in high school, and has continued to follow his passion with local favorites, Bare Hill and now The DulceTones. Influenced by the AM classics of the 60's and 70's as well as any new music that catches his ear, he's always striving to play music that sounds and feels good.
Don Sugai
Don bought his 1st record, "All I Have To Do is Dream" in 1958 and the music has never stopped. He sang in school and church choirs, and in a barbershop quartet at 12. In high school in Hawaii, his bands, The Victims of Circumstance and The Soul Reaction, won some Battle of the Bands and opened for some touring acts. He played in bands through college in Los Angeles and, then as a grad student in Amherst, MA; first, Tsunami, then The Colby's and then Midnight Shift, where he met and performed with Jim. He then performed with local bands Nice Suit and Bare Hill, where he started making music with Joel in 2008...and it hasn't stopped.
